Terms
Updated 2026-10-14
These terms are the license you get with Textmode, and they are short on purpose.
Who sells it
You pay in USDC, and we sell Textmode to you directly. If we also offer payment by card, Polar sells it to you as the seller of record: it takes the payment, charges any sales tax or VAT, and sends the receipt, under its own buyer terms. Either way, the right to use the app comes from us, under these terms.
Paying in USDC
- The price is 29.99 USDC, which is 29.99 US dollars. Nothing is added to it at checkout.
- Your order gets a deposit address of its own, on the network you choose: Base, Arbitrum One, OP Mainnet, Polygon PoS or Ethereum, and only USDC on that network counts. The order stays open for 14 days.
- A payment up to 0.50 USDC short of the price is accepted, to cover an exchange's withdrawal fee.
- A blockchain payment can't be reversed, and anything sent in another token, on another network, or after the order has closed is not credited. Write to us with the transaction link and we will look into it.
- When the payment is confirmed, your license key appears on the order page and we email it to you.
The trial
Every feature works for 30 days from the first time you open Textmode on a Mac, with no account. After that nothing is locked: Textmode reminds you at most once a day until you enter a key.
Your license
- A license is for one person. Use it on any Mac you use yourself. On a Mac that several people use, each of them needs their own.
- Your license does not expire, so you can keep using any version it covers for as long as you like. We can't promise that a future macOS will still run an old version.
- Every 1.x update is included. If a later major version is ever a paid upgrade, you choose whether to buy it.
- Don't publish your key or give it to others to use. Your email is written into it. A team needs one license per person.
- If your key leaks or you lose it, write to us from the email you bought with and we will send it again, or issue a new one.
What you may not do
- Change or remove the license check to silence the reminder, for yourself or for anyone else.
- Sell or share copies of a key.
When a license ends
A refund ends the license for that purchase. So does sharing or selling a key. Later versions may stop accepting a key whose license has ended. We will not reach into a copy on your Mac: Textmode checks keys on the Mac and never reports back.
Your files
What you write is yours. Textmode opens and saves files on your Mac (see Privacy). We claim no rights in them and do not see them.
Open source
Textmode is a modified version of CotEditor, created by nakamuxu and developed by 1024jp, released under the Apache License 2.0, and it uses other open source software. Textmode itself is licensed to you under these terms. The open source components listed under Licenses in the app's About window stay under their own licenses, and nothing here limits what those licenses allow.
Warranty and liability
If you buy as a consumer, the law where you live may give you a guarantee that the app works as described, and nothing here reduces it. Beyond that, Textmode is provided as is. Keep backups of files that matter. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability is limited to what you paid for your license, or 50 US dollars if you paid nothing.
None of this limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for harm caused on purpose or through gross negligence.
Refunds
See Refunds: 14 days, no questions asked.
Changes
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. A change applies to purchases made after that date and to updates released after it. It never takes away a license you already have.
Who we are
Textmode is made by Useful Computing, a brand of Riverside Art LLC, a Wyoming company. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, without taking away any protection the consumer laws of your country give you. Contact: support@usefulcomputing.com.
